Getting the cocktail right for successful recruitments in biotech SMEs
Wednesday 8th October: Symposium organised by Biotech Info, LEEM, Arrowman Executive
11 am to 12 midday

The good news is that you have the right technology, you have the finance and you have the intellectual property rights sewn up. The bad news is that all this could still go wrong if you hire the wrong person! It's not just a question of expertise: never forget the issues of personality. This session will look at the skills that lead to a viable business but that start-ups often overlook.

Moderators: Hélène Guyot, Editor-in-Chief Biotech Info, Elodie Sencier, Project Manager, French Pharmaceutical Companies' Association (Leem) Marie-Jo Villegas, Senior Consultant, ArrowMan Executive.

Jean-François Biry, CEO, DBV Technologies
Angelita de Francisco, Dinove (to be confirmed)
Jean-Marie Zacharie, CEO, Shigamedics (to be confirmed)

Alternative Careers for Scientists
Wednesday 8th October: Symposium organised by the London Biotech Network
 3.10 pm to 4.10 pm

Training to be a research scientist develops a wider range of very transferable skills that can be valued by subsequent employers should you move to a role away from the laboratory bench. It is very common however for science graduates to feel that all they know is how to do research. Analytical, numerate, communication, IT, project planning and management, budgeting and so on, these are all skills used in many professions. This session will look at what transferable skills are developed, how to further develop them for a career in the business of science and how to use those skills to promote science to the public.

Moderator: Tony Jones, Director, London Biotech Network
Speakers:
William Bains, Associate Faculty, MBE programme, Cambridge University
Richard Hayhurst, Founder and MD, Hayhurst Media
Hélène Guyot, Editor-in-Chief, Biotech Info

Anticipation and awareness: two keys to adding value to a doctoral education in a wide range of careers
Wednesday 8th October: Symposium organised by the European University Association
4.20 pm to 5.20 pm

Young doctors still have difficulty finding and holding on to executive positions. One of the reasons is a lack of awareness, by universities, candidates and recruiters, that the skills developed during their doctoral education are precisely those employers are searching for: the world of research is no longer an ivory tower. This session aims to convince you that anticipation and awareness are the keys to successful career development and getting the most out of your doctorate.

Moderator: Jean Chambaz, Vice-President, Council for Doctoral Education, European University Association
Speakers:
Ian Haines, Executive Committee Member, UK Council for Graduate Education
Amandine Bugnicourt, CEO, Adoc Talent Management
Paule Biaudet, Head of Department Doctoral Training & Careers, Pierre & Marie Curie University (UPMC)

Presenters:
Kitty Fehringer, European Commission, DG Research, Universities and Researchers
